Horse Racing or Sports Betting?

Betting enthusiasts first make the decision to bet then they must decide on what sort of bets to place. We all enjoy a gamble but we must do this responsibly or risk the addiction and negative things that can happen if this consumes our betting behaviour. Contrary to popular belief betting can be enjoyed responsibly and part of your entertainment if you wish. We are going to look in this article at what is the best type of betting to focus on, is it horse racing betting or sports betting?

Sports betting is attractive particularly to avid sports watchers who can have a wager on pretty much anything to do with sports; even in-running betting is on offer. Sites offer a variety of wagers designed to allow the punter to have bets on anything to do with the sport, tournament or sub-contest.

Horse racing is the sports of kings that has a long tradition in history, many punters search for that big winner and analysing and predicting their form. They treat this type of betting as a science to be worked out and conquered. There are bets all day during racing with dog racing and virtual racing live in the betting shops, so the punter who likes action all day may prefer this type of betting.

I believe there are many reasons why punters should consider sports betting ahead of the horse racing betting. There has long since been a fear of race fixing and many stewards enquiries alter the results of races for a number of reasons. Numerous trainers have been fined for malpractice either through drugging horses or manipulating their horses handicaps for future gambles. The introduction of the betting exchanges has seen the public able to lay horses to lose a race, thus opening up more opportunities for trading with insider knowledge. Horse racing would not exist without betting on races but the sports betting goes on alongside the sports themselves which exist for their own end. This makes them inherently different as betting entities.

Betting activity in sports is far more policed by the managing associations of the respective sports. Any player caught betting on a match in football or tennis are subject to large fines and even suspensions. There was a snooker match recently where there was a large amount of money was placed before a match on a correct score bet. With the match entering its conclusion a very simple ball was missed and the scoreline that had been bet on heavily won. This indicated that perhaps the players were manipulating the scoreline, particularly as a skilled player would never line up the shot as badly as that player did. Nothing has been proved as yet as this match is still under investigation by the World Snooker authorities and the Police. The recent bloodgate scandal in Rugby has ended up with suspensions being handed out that run into years rather than months. These indiscretions are always investigated thoroughly and if found to be against the rules in some way they are dealt with severely. For that reason we can bet on sports safe in the knowledge that on most occasions the game is being contested fairly.

When we research our sports bets the information on players injuries, form and team performance is transparent. In horse racing betting some punters have access to inside information from the yard or from other sources that the normal high street betting office punter who uses form and odds to predict the race result does not. My research talking to many punters suggests that they are happy to bet and lose providing it is fair game. I have many friends that prefer sports betting because they trust the outcome is genuine and without manipulation.

It is the punters choice on their reason for betting and their reasons for trusting results. As it is real money you are wagering I would do all you can to validate that you are at least getting the odds chance to win that your bet allows (if possible a value bet). That way your only concern is looking after your winnings and monitoring your participation. If the factors set out above are done correctly many hours of fun and even profit can be enjoyed by all.
